The Los Angeles Lakers will have to go four weeks or more without Anthony Davis after the forward was diagnosed with an MCL sprain in his left knee.

Life isn’t going to get any easier for the Lakers over the festive period and looking into the new year. Not with Anthony Davis sitting on the sidelines.

Davis will be out at least four weeks with an MCL sprain, according to Shams Charania.

While it’s fortunate there wasn’t more damage to Davis’ left knee, it’s still a long time to go without a star player, leaving LeBron James with even more on his shoulders.

Anthony Davis injury update: Lakers star out for four weeks or more

Lakers fans have to wonder if the team is in real trouble.

LA is 16-14 and in fourth place in the Pacific. They are currently in the sixth seed in the Western Conference but they could easily fall out with a bad run over the next four weeks.

If we take the four-week projection literally, Davis could return for the Laker’s Jan. 17 game against Utah. He would miss 13 games in that stretch which includes contests against playoff-bound teams like the Bulls, Suns, Nets and Grizzlies. Playoff hopefuls like the Timberwolves, Kings, Hawks, Blazers and Nuggets will also have the opportunity to get an edge over LA in that span.

Adding to the concern, Davis could certainly be absent for longer than that. The four-week timeline is a minimum.
